What is Empty Legs?

GreenSeatFinder is built upon the “Empty Legs” principle, which comes from the fixed-wing aviation industry. Think of it this way- with a charter /taxi flight, once the pilot has transported his customer to a specific destination, he still has to return home. More often than not, he flies home with a plane full of empty seats! Or perhaps he has to fly out to a specific location to pick up his customer, and the plane is empty on the way there.

The difference is the fact that GreenSeatFinder covers all types of transportation and some service related trips as well. Most Empty Legs communities only offer Empty Legs with airplanes, whereas airplanes are just one small part of our community.

At GreenSeatFinder you can find helicopters, taxis, moving companies, buses, limousines, medical transports and other charter/taxi operations aside from planes.
GreenSeatFinder is also different from other search engines in that you do not know what kind of transport you will end up with when searching for a specific trip/service on a specific date.

By accepting what is offered, we can work together to fight climate change. The fact that ithe trips or transports are cheap is just an extra bonus!

What is a Green Seat?

By taking part in already paid trips, and thereby keeping down the number of empty seats, our passengers have the opportunity to travel both responsibly and economically. We call these seats “Green Seats”.

By introducing “Green Seats” to the world, we are providing efficiency when it comes to travelling, thereby buying us all more time. Same principle applies for moving and shipping cargo.

Why does GreenSeatFinder differentiate between Operators and Travelers/Customers?

When you sign up as a member with GreenSeatFinder, you choose between either an “Operator” or a “Traveler/ Customer” membership. Operator memberships are only for companies (also brokers)providing transport or services, and are completely free of charge. These companies have the legal right to perform their services in their respective countries, and are therefore permitted to list a trip/service on GreenSeatFinder. Private people are not permitted to list trips or services.

Can brokers also obtain an Operators'account for free?

Yes.

In what way can travelling in a V8 limousine be good for the environment?

These trips are”previously paid”, and will take place regardless of whether GreenSeatFinder passengers are involved or not.

What we are offering is a simple way for our customers, who would be travelling anyway, to aid in cutting down the amount of carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere by choosing trips /services on GreenSeatFinder which would otherwise have taken place with completely empty vehicles.

Of course, the same goes for empty trucks and all other transport services.

How often have you had the opportunity to travel affordably in a limo or a helicopter?

How can tuning a piano be good for the environment?

The Empty Legs principle can also be applied to performing a professional service. GreenSeatFinder functions therefore not only for transporting passengers, but also for other kinds of services, such as tuning a piano.

If you, for example, live in a remote area and wish to have your piano tuned, you can check on to see whether a piano tuner will be in your area at any time in the near future.

In this way you can get a better price for his services, while sparing the environment by limiting the number of trips the piano tuner is required to make. This principle can naturally be applied to many other services as well.

What requirements are there for listing a trip/service with GreenSeatFinder?

1. You must always list the trip/service with a price, and provide full contact data.
2. You are only permitted to list trips that are “already paid”, in order to fulfill the environmental requirements of GreenSeatFinder. These trips include transport of cargo and other services of a professional nature where the same environmental principal can be applied.
3. If your company offers trips/services on a regular timetable, you are NOT permitted to list these kinds of trips/services. These are classified as regular traffic/services, as opposed to the taxi/charter trips that are listed on GreenSeatFinder.
4.

As an operator, you are not permitted to (on GreenSeatFinder) promote other trips/services provided by your company which do not fulfill the environmental requirements of GreenSeatFinder. It is also not permitted to provide links or references to other communities providing Empty Legs. (However, if you are a broker of Empty Legs, you are allowed to list these trips on GreenSeatFinder as long as you meet the necessary criteria for information and data according to the rules of GreenSeatFinder. You may also list the trips on your own website.)

5.

If a trip is cancelled, and the customer has already paid, you as an Operator are required to reimburse the customer his/her money, in accordance with the disclaimer.

How can I deactivate my account if I do not want to be a member of GreenSeatFinder any longer?

Out of respect for your privacy, we provide you a way to deactivate your account by contacting privacypolicy@greenseatfinder.com and unsubscribing. Please note, if you have paid a yearly fee, it is not refundable.

Can I change or modify the trip as an Operator or Traveler?

Once a Traveler and an Operator have come to an agreement about a listed trip/service, nothing can be changed. However, should a situation arise in which you find a trip listed with us that takes you very close to where you were intending to travel, it is still possible to work out a solution which will be less expensive for you and better for the environment than with normal commercial travel.

Perhaps it’s possible to “stretch out” the trip, paying full price for the extra stretch? In cases such as these, there will be a negotiation between the Traveler and the Operator directly, fully in accordance with GreenSeatFinder’s regulations.

How do I book trip or service?

You can search for a trip/service without being logged in on GreenSeatFinder. However, in order to access information such as contact data, you will need to log in. You, as a Traveler, make contact with the Operator according to the contact data, booking your trip/service directly with them. (Please note that GreenSeatFinder receives no payment or provision for the actual trip or service being listed.)

I've noticed misconduct on GreenSeatFinder, what should I do?
Contact us, and we will take action immediately. This applies to both Operators and Travelers/Customers.
Why is it a good idea for "Shipping Operators" to use GreenSeatFinder as opposed to simply finding cargo for their already paid trips themselves?
It is clear that Shipping Operators are interested in making their business as effective as possible. However, the situation sometimes arises that an operator doesn’t manage to fill their return trips.

Why not take the opportunity to, for example, finally ship that bed to the summer cottage as the truck is driving by anyway? It will be cheap, and you are sparing the environment in that no extra trips are necessary.

Who sets the price for trip/service?

Operators always decide the price. They are, however, encouraged to set a price around 50% lower than “normal price” when it comes to personal transport.

How do I pay for either my trips or the services?
You contact the specific operator directly for the service or trip that you're requesting, and they will direct you in terms of how payments and arrangements are made.
Does the listed price include all seats in every mode of transport?

Yes, the listed price should cover all seats with the rare exception of when it is clearly stated by the operator.

I came up with a new service that I have not seen on GreenSeatFinder before. Can I list this as an Operator?

Yes. We are happy when our customers find new ways to utilize GreenSeatFinder. As long as you make sure you fulfill the environmental and other requirements for the Operators as listed above, you have a green light! IIf you are unsure, just send us an email describing your specific case.

What is the most common mistake that Operators make?

The most common mistake is that they believe that they can list trips which are operating on a timetable. These trips are considered "regular traffic", as opposed to the "already paid trips" with charter/taxi operators that are listed on GreenSeatFinder. In such cases, it is clear that these Operators do not understand the environmental criteria that are so important for GreenSeatFinder. Operators doing this will be warned the first time, and if they repeat, they will be excluded from our service.

Another common mistake is that people think that they can list a trip or service as a "private person. " We try to make it clear and in several places underline the importance of the fact that you have to represent a commercial company to be able to list any trips or services with GreenSeatFinder.

How does the Operator know that I found this trip using GreenSeatFinder?
Every item posted on GreenSeatFinder has a "unique list code", which is created by the Operator advertising the trip or service, and lists a set price and criteria. We call this "The Green Code".
Can I be signed up as an private person and still list trips as an Operator?
No, it is our policy that only commercial companies, who have obtained a free operator membership, have the right to list trips on GSF.
Can I, as an Operator, lower my already listed prices to attract customers?

Yes, if you have yet to come to an agreement with a customer, you are free to change the price, as well as to delete or make any changes you wish to the trip or service.

If my trip gets cancelled, will I be reimbursed by GreenSeatFinder?
The Operator should pay you back if you’ve paid in advance. However, GreenSeatFinder’s sole responsibility is to provide contact between Operators and Travelers.
Please note that Empty Legs are always dependent upon the original reservation, so they can be changed or cancelled with little notice. As we are NOT involved in any other payment except our own yearly fee, GreenSeatFinder does NOT reimburse Operators or Travelers for cancelled trips or other similar scenarios, according to our Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.
How does the "Rating System" work?

The customer will be asked to rate the quality of his/her transactions with the Operator, so it is in the best interests of all concerned that the customer is satisfied with the quality of the transactions, as a negative rating can adversely affect an Operator's future with us.

Those with Traveler/Customer Service memberships can rate Operators, as future reference for others. For the time being, it is only possible to rate an Operator once. (Please be aware that your name will be shown in the rating list, in order to ensure that it was actually you who made this rating.) In the Rating Box you can write a comment, and also click on the stars where 5 is very good is very unsatisfactory.
